Recently I’ve relocated to Fremantle in WA. After placing equal 9th in the Box comp and spending a few boozy nights wandering the streets of Perth city and Fremantle I decided to pull up stumps here for a while.
This frame grab is from the first decent waves I’ve surfed over here and supposably it was still pretty average. For Those Who is James Strickland’s project he’s been filming for, check out the Facebook page for updates on the film.
Straddie last winter! This day was magic. Fat Tom and I drove down with no expectations and came away grinning. The stretch was pumping and uncrowded. When we came in Darcy Ward came up and said he got some shots but wasnt sure if they were any good…
This trip was so much fun. Cade, Stormboy and myself spent a few hours driving south for some fun waves. The night before I stayed at Cades house in Caloundra. We told Stormboy we would have an early night so we’d be lively enough for the drive down when he’d pick us up in the morning. I get to Cades and we bailed straight to the bottle’o an infamous Caloundra house party was on that night just a few streets away from Cade’s. Drinking, smoking, stumbling our way through the streets we arrive at the party. This poor house was packed, people fucking everywhere and was ready to explode like a fat guy hiding his gut in some tiny pants. It did explode. Police arrived and bottles were thrown from the backyard of the house over the roof at the cops yelling “whats the colour of a 2 cent peice?” and answering ” coppa, coppa!!”. I loose Cade amongst the chaos but see a big white fucking greg norman look alike hat swaying on a rubber neck heading down the road with the man himself attatched. We stagger back home and pass out. One hour later, lights flick on and Stormboys standing over us. We gather our boards and brains and cram into Stormboys car. Four hours later, with blurry red eyes, stinking breath and rusty throats from the smokey coffin nails we arrive at our destination. Waves are pumping! Five salty hours later we’re back in the car heading home with tunes blasting, baked bean sangas and no hangover. Thank you Ocean.
Pipeline Challenge 2012, the best Bodyboarding comp I’ve ever seen! This is the most memorable wave I’ve ridden. Thanks to IBA for putting on such an incredible competition and congratulations to Jeff Hubbard!
Two of my favourite shots in the water taken by two of my good friends Ben Lee and Ryan “Stormboy” Jones. Both of these guys have helped me out with finding waves, capturing my surfing and are all round legends! Hope everyone has a wild new years eve and a fresh hangover to start the new year with.
